CHALLENGE

BOCA Group was selected as the vertical transportation consultant for a much-needed modernization at this Class A Manhattan high-rise. The building’s elevator equipment had surpassed its life expectancy and the client wished to modernize their vertical transportation systems to reflect the stature of its ownership and the building’s rich history. Because it is a fully-occupied building, it was imperative to determine ways that the upgrades could be completed in the least-disruptive manner to its tenants as possible.

WHAT WAS DONE

Through a bid process, BOCA Group was able to secure skilled elevator contractors to modernize the system in a variety of ways. First, the hoist machines and controllers were replaced with brand new AC machines and AC Quattro drives for energy efficiency and energy savings. BOCA Group also specified the installation of Destination Dispatch, the latest and greatest in dispatching technology, which also increases traffic flow in the building. During its installation, Destination Dispatch Overlay was implemented on top of the existing dispatch system. This gave the client the function and improvement of Destination Dispatch upfront rather than when the last device in the bank was complete, further decreasing interruptions among their tenants. Aesthetically, the cab interiors were renovated to add visible appeal to the tenants and visitors, which created a tight deadline in order to make sure that this aspect would align with the completion of the equipment modernization.
